If you happened to notice the wonderful art work on the top of the page then you may have noticed the signature in the bottom right corner. I set George on a mission to create a portrait of me in my finest state, working hard on my labour of love, focused on the task at hand and portraying my determination and skill as a craftsman. I think he nailed it perfectly. In all reality I asked him to recreate this small drawing i came across in an old knucklehead manual.

And this was the masterpiece he came up with.

I picked up a 1938 UL motor from a guy in Ohio. Right now i'm just waiting for parts to get here to put the rotating assembly together and then Loco and i will button up the bottom end.

The cases on 36-39 big twins have a sprocket and pinion race that doesn't permit line-honing, the fix is to machine out the extra steel so a later bearing race will push through. So, i took the left side over to Sluggo's Garage and we drilled the steel webbing out a million times and then i hand finished it with a file and die grinder. (if anyone reading this is a machinist, just close your eyes and skip to the bottom)

Was hanging out with my buddy Bernie the other day and he pulled out these pics of his choppers through the 80's. Awesome! Various changes, obviously, through the years. Frames, motors, etc. Starting in 81, ending up around 87. The only year missing was 85. Some of these bikes were ridden across the country! Bernie is a hell of a guy and knows his way around a motorcycle.

If you need ANY frame work or machining done, look up Bernies Machine in Saskatoon. He's got more knuckleheads then I have friends and is always willing to share his knowledge and riding stories of the past. Tons of respect Bernie, thanks for all your help!

So I inherited some old manuals from an uncle of mine and have decided to share the wealth with all you fine folks. These manuals are long out of print and probably pretty hard to find so hopefully some of you can make use of them. First off is a Cross Index for early Harley Davidson parts numbers (pre-1952) to the later and current 5 digit numbers. A must for anyone working on a restoration or rebuild of the early bikes/components. Makes parts ordering much easier when referring to the vintage manuals and parts books. I have found a few other reprints of this manual but most places are wanting anywhere from $15 - $45 for this book. These will be in the store for $10 plus 5 for shipping. Hello Blog folk. The guys here at 50's Haze asked me to be a contributor to their blog so i thought i would give you a quick intro. my name is Dirk but most people know me as "sluggo's brother". Since i can remember i've loved old stuff. especially hot rods, custom cars, and old bikes. i was born in the wrong decade. I am currently the secretary for Los Chops car club and i'm in the middle of chopping my 53 chevy. I just finally started the bike project of my dreams: a 48 wishbone frame, 16" rear and 18" front, and i'd like to run a big twin flathead. the look with be something out of the wild one. more to come...

I cannot get over how incredibly cool this period perfect Chevy is. The first thing that blows you away is the incredible "watsonesque" paint job by none other than mr. Harpoon himself. Done to perfection. The tuck n roll interior, hot rod straight six (built by Chris' dad) and smooth body work and customizing by Circle City hot rods make this car a piece of rolling art. By far the coolest custom I've seen in a long time. Congratulations Chris. I stopped in at the local bookstore the other day and was pleased to find these two fine rags on the shelf. Autocult has risen from the ashes of Garage magazine is is well worth its weight in gold. Great articles and photography on rods and the culture surrounding in this, the premier issue. Highly reccomended. Next is the highly coveted Rodders Journal. now i've heard a lot of great things about this magazine but i am ashamed to say this is the first issue i've picked up. It blows the doors off any of those other "rat-rod kulture" mags out there. Loaded with cool cars, new and old, crisp photography and informative articles. A little less punk rock and little more class than Autocult, the two together make for a perfect afternoon read. Now I made a point to find this issue of RJ for a reason, as it features a unbelievable car owner by a friend. More on that to come, hold on to your hats...

So me, Jordan and Cory got up at the crack of dawn and heading South to the Regina Swap. Upon a quick survey of the room, things looked kinda lame, but once the crowd starting flowing in, the parts started to move. Long story short, i came home in the black cash wise and got a ton of goodies. Apparently we were the only ones looking for anything pre-1991. Scores of the day was the guy who asked me if i'd trade my set of sportster gauges (i woulda gave em away if he asked) for a 16" borrani rim. um sure!

Vans are the shoe of choice in my closet and I'm sure many of you reading this share the same taste in footwear. We can thank Jim for creating the company that has helped form a culture we all love and cherish.
